We encourage those discerning God’s call to look around at our website for information about our monastic spirituality and life. In addition, the Solesmes website (the Motherhouse of our Congregation in France) is very informative: www.solesmes.com. The monks at Clear Creek do not use internet (except for strictly necessary business), but most of the religious orders have a website like this, as it can be useful to those listening to God’s call.
Although we have no absolute age limit, the Novitiate program is designed for men in their 20s or early 30s. Experience has shown that it is most difficult to persevere in this kind of life after the age of 35, although we must not put limits on the grace of God. In addition, monks who are entering the choir novitiate are expected to have a basic understanding of ecclesiastical Latin. Of course, the most important thing in all of this is to pray, as Saint Benedict bids us do, before we set out on any important endeavor (see Prologue to the Rule). All is grace, especially in this domain.
The only way one can really learn about a place like this, however, is to come visit us. We suggest that one come for about 3 to 5 days the first time. There is a good airport at Tulsa, where we can pick up discerning men (we are about one and a half hours by car from the airport). Usually after a few days here, it is clear to a young man whether he wants to come for a longer stay, during which a decision about entering might be made. To schedule a visit contact Father Guestmaster. Young women may consider visiting the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a contemplative women’s community of the Solesmes congregation. General inquiries about vocations should be addressed to the Master of Novices by postal mail.
Please be assured that we pray for those discerning a call to the priesthood or religious life.
