In clear language, Fr. James Jackson, FSSP, reveals the rich theological meaning behind the art, architecture, words and gestures of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, the Rite of St. Gregory the Great in this book, Nothing Superfluous.
Immerse yourself in this simple guide to fully appreciate all that is the Traditional Latin Mass. This comprehensive book will help Catholics to appreciate ever more deeply the profound beauty expressed in the Mass.
“The purpose of this work is to place in the hands of the faithful in the the pews, precisely those attending what has come to be called the ‘Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite’ or the forma antiquior, a simple but enriching explanation, responding to the questions that typically come to mind as one gazes upon this traditional rite with its incomparable symbolism and harmony. It may be that something more that what is superfluous is left out here, but this book responds to a particular pastoral need. The focus is on what has been the common thread of this liturgical celebration of the greatest of the Sacraments from time immemorial, especially since it was given more definitive form by Pope St. Gregory the Great in the sixth century.” – Dom Philip Anderson, Abbot of Clear Creek
Building Something Beautiful For God –
To Last A Thousand Years
Our Lady of Clear Creek Abbey is a Benedictine community belonging to the Solesmes Congregation and, like other monasteries of the Solesmes Congregation, is to be counted among the institutes entirely ordered towards contemplation. It was founded in 1999 from the Abbey of Our Lady of Fontgombault in France and is located in the Diocese of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clear Creek became an abbey in 2010 and counts 55 monks, who devote themselves to God alone in the hidden life, in silence and solitude, in constant prayer and willing penance.
After twenty years of existence, we are happy, by the grace of God, to have completed two large buildings and a sizable portion of our abbatial church. We started building the “Chapter House” to accommodate the growing number of monks and provide a Sacristy, Infirmary, classrooms and the Chapter itself. Please help us continue this arduous, but important work for the glory of God.
